Another great episode. Maybe one day I'll have the time to start one. To save time cutting your squares you should get a rotary cutter and pad. They'e not too expensive. If you shop at JoAnn's Fabrics or Michaels, they always have(40-50% off)coupons out. I caught a glipse of your curtains in the video. Can you post a picture of a whole window top to bottom so I can see how they turned out?
The fabric should not really be stretched. The bias edge will stretch out of shape and your rows could end up different lengths. I recommend instead that you iron the blocks after sewing. Press to the dark color. Also, make sure you are sewing with a 1/4" seam. This is very important in quilting, particularly when you start making piece blocks. I recommend going to http://www.quilterscache.com/ for free patterns. Also, there are LOTS of tutorials on youtube about quilting.
